山东省济南市辖县，中国龙山文化遗址所在地。位于省境鲁中山地与鲁北平原之间，胶济铁路横贯中部。面积1855平方公里,人口95.53万。县府驻明水镇。秦为齐郡，汉属青州，隋改今名。经济以农业为主，主要农产品除小麦、玉米、甘薯外，明水香稻、章丘大葱是闻名中外的特产。矿产资源丰富，工业有采煤、化肥、水泥等。历史上手工制铁业发达。章丘多各胜古迹。明水风景秀美，尤以泉水最著，百脉泉、东麻湾、西麻湾等均为著名泉池。县境西部平陵城是西汉济南国都城。城西16公里处龙山镇是龙山文化发源地。约5000年前，龙山镇城子崖附近，居民渐繁，开始筑城建国（谭国都城即设于此），创造了灿烂的文化。发掘出的壁薄如蛋壳的黑陶器，造型匀称，质地细腻，色泽漆黑光亮，代表了中国文化史的重要阶段，是中国文物的稀珍。城子崖龙山文化遗址面积约15万平方米，为国家重点文物保护单位。
