成虫体长12-13.5毫米，身体呈橙黄色，并常有变异。头部、前胸背板及小盾片深黄色。头部有1明显的圆形黑斑;头顶的另一黑斑向颜面部位呈长方形延伸。前、后唇基相交处有1横跨的黑色斑。复眼、单眼均黑色。前胸背板有呈三角形的圆形黑点3个;前翅橙黄色稍沾褐色，翅基肩角各有黑斑1块;翅端为黑色。后翅黑色。胸、腹面均为黑色，有时侧缘及腹节间呈淡黄色。
年发生1代。成虫在杂草、常绿树及竹林中过冬;年春出蛰后刺吸寄主嫩叶。主要危害甘蔗、桑、茶等。
