化学式H2S2O3，分子量114.14。仅存在溶液中。不稳定，45℃分解，生成水、二氧化硫、硫。硫代硫酸可看成是硫酸分子中的一个氧原子被硫原子所代替的产物。两个硫原子的平均氧化数为+2。其中一个硫原子氧化数为+6，另一个硫原子氧化数为-2，因此硫代硫酸及其盐类具有一定的还原性。硫代硫酸根酸离子在碱性条件下很稳定，有很强的络合能力。
