大别山最西部山峰。海拔744米。 位于河南省南端，豫鄂边境，京广铁路线东侧，北距信阳市45公里。旧称"鸡翘山"。地层较古老，岩石多为花岗岩和花岗片麻岩，质地坚硬，不易风化，但因外营力长期剥蚀，山体多呈浑圆状，形成独特自然景观，向以"山明水秀，泉清林翠,气候凉爽，风景幽奇"而驰名。主峰鸡公头,远望似巨大雄鸡，屹立于群峰之巅，鸡公山由此得名。年均温12.4℃，夏季均温24℃。因雨量较多，山上常为云雾笼罩，故又有"云海公园"之称。1949年以前曾大量修建教堂、别墅，为避暑游乐之地。1949年以后，随旅游事业发展,对名胜建筑进行维修,又新建疗养院、医院、商店、学校等多处。并建成盘山公路，成为疗养、游览之地。建于山区的鸡公山自然保护区1988年划为国家级自然保护区。
