近年来，采用纤维增强塑料FRP(Fiber Reinforced Plastic)筋嵌入式方法(Near Surface Mounted，简称NSM)加固混凝土结构这一新技术在国外的试验研究和工程实践里逐渐涌现，对比技术已臻成熟且普遍采用的外贴式加固方法，嵌入式加固方法具有如下的特点和优势：(1)施工预处理工作量少，安装时间短；(2)FRP材料因嵌粘在混凝土内而得到了保护，避免磨损和碰撞等不利影响，特别适合于桥面板和连续梁负弯矩区域的加固；(3)能应用于外贴法难于施工的高温，高湿加固工程：(4)安装时便于与相邻构件锚固。

以体外的装置，将患肢保持在治疗上所需的位置，如骨折、脱位复位后或某些肢体矫形术后，维持一定的位置，以利骨折及其他软组织的修复。常用的有石膏夹板、小夹板。持续牵引如骨牵引、皮肤牵引也有复位、制动及矫正畸形的作用，也属外固定的一种形式。将钢针穿刺骨端、外连支架的体外穿针固定法属另一种外固定装置，主要用于严重开放性骨折、软组织挫伤重，既无法作外固定，也难作手术内固定者。
