短尾信天翁 Diomedea albatrus;short-tailed albatross 鹱形目信天翁科信天翁属的一种。此鸟为漂泊性海鸟 。外形似海鸥。头大;嘴长而强,由许多角质片覆盖,上嘴先端屈曲向下;鼻成管状;颈短;体躯粗壮结实;尾短;翅狭而特大,长达 55 厘米以上。飞翔力强,常在远洋空中翱翔,终日不倦,也不怕暴风 。亦能潜水 。食物以软体动物为主。叫声洪亮。短尾信天翁成大群在北太平洋海岛上繁殖。在地面上或岩窟内以泥土筑巢。每产仅 1卵。卵近白色。孵卵期为2~3个月。雌雄共同孵卵和育雏。雏为晚成性。幼鸟全褐。在中国沿海一带(特别是台湾海峡)越冬。十分罕见。为中国国家一级保护动物。
