描述AcanthopanaxMiq.五加属，五加科，约35种，分布于亚洲，我国有27种，广布于南北各省，长江流域最盛，其中五加A.gracilistylusW.W.Sm.和白簕花A.trifoliatus(L.)Merr.，根皮供药用，中药称“五加皮”，能祛风去湿，强壮筋骨。灌木至小乔木，常有刺；叶为掌状复叶；花两性或杂性；伞形花序单生或排成顶生的大圆锥花序；萼5齿裂；花瓣5（4）；雄蕊与花瓣同数；子房下位，2（3－5）室，花柱离生或合生成柱状；果近球形，核果状。本属亦有人主张细分成3属：EleutherococcusMaxim.，EvodiopanaxNakai和AcanthopanaxMiq.，惟它们之间的区别不大，可能还是合并较好。
