1.巡视。 2.官署名巡检司，官名巡检使，省称巡检。始于五代后唐庄宗。宋时于京师府界东西两路，各置都同巡检二人，京城四门巡检各一人。又于沿边﹑沿江﹑沿海置巡检司。掌训练甲兵，巡逻州邑，职权颇重，后受所在县令节制。明清时，凡镇市﹑关隘要害处俱设巡检司，归县令管辖。参阅《文献通考．职官十三》﹑清顾炎武《日知录．乡亭之职》。
