性质:毛皮毛被中最细短、最柔软和数量最多的毛,约占毛纤维总量的95%~98%。绒毛上下一般粗,有不同形状,如弯曲形、螺旋形、直形、卷曲形等,使毛被呈蓬松厚密感,并在毛被中形成一个空气不易流通的保温层,能减少动物热量散失,保暖性好。绒毛的颜色因动物种类而异,通常比针毛色浅。
