辽河

    中国东北地区南部大河。有东西两源:正源为老哈河,源出河北省平泉县光头山,在苏家堡接纳西拉木伦河后称西辽河。西辽河接纳支流教来河、新开河后于辽宁省福德店附近与发源于吉林省辽源市吉林哈达岭的东辽河相汇合后始称辽河。由北向南流,沿途纳苏台河、清河、柴河、泛河、秀水河、养息牧河、柳河等。到六间房附近分为两股;一股称外辽河,于三岔河接纳了辽河最大的支流——浑河和太子河后,又称大辽河,于营口市入渤海;另一股称双台子河,于盘山附近入渤海。1958年大辽河在六间房附近被堵截后,浑河、太子河成为独立水系 。干流全长1390千米 ,流域面积(包括浑河、太子河)为21.9万平方千米。辽河上游主源西辽河及两侧支流含沙量大,干流流经辽河平原,河道比降平缓,泥沙淤积严重,河床不断抬高,汛期排水不畅,易造成洪涝灾害,有“十年九涝”的“南大荒”之称。中华人民共和国建立后,对流域进行全面治理,通过兴修蓄水工程和干流两岸修堤开渠,大辽河独流入海,大大减轻了下游洪涝灾害。年径流量144.85亿立方米,但地区分布不均 ,西辽河集水面占流域面积的67.2%  ,而径流量只占20%,浑河、太子河集水面积仅占12.5%,而径流量却占48.2% 。辽河中下游及浑河、太子河地区的工矿、城镇和耕地极为集中,水资源的利用程度很高,实际用水量占水资源量的50%左右。水污染相当严重。
