Four nests of Mergus squamatus were located in two breeding seasons (from April to May), 2005 and 2006 at Dailing Bishui Nature Reserve, Heilongjiang Province.

| 喀纳斯自然景观国家自然保护区 位于中国新疆维吾尔自治区布尔津县北部、阿尔泰山西段。1980年建立自然保护区 。面积55.88万公顷 ，其中绝对保护区18.85万公顷，禁猎区37.03万公顷 。是中国唯一的北冰洋水系流域区，也是唯一的古北界欧洲-西伯利亚动植物分布区，是新疆针叶林树种和野生动物种类最多，人类影响最小，原始状态保存最完整的地区。以喀纳斯湖为中心，湖面海拔1374米，面积37.7平方千米，湖水颜色随天气而有规律地变化，被称为变色湖。周围山体保存有众多古冰川遗迹，现代冰川374条。山地植被垂直分异明显，为多种动植物创造了复杂的生境条件。有各种植物近1000种，昆虫300余种，鱼类8种，两栖及爬行类7种，鸟类100多种，兽类34种。植物中西伯利亚冷杉、西伯利亚红杉、小叶桦、北极柳等10余种，在中国是唯一产区。西伯利亚花楸、西伯利亚接骨木是珍稀树种。动物中马鹿、雪豹、猞猁、紫貂、石貂、丹顶鹤、黑颈鹤等均是国家规定的保护动物。 |
