美国电影学术团体。1927年由美国电影界知名人士L.B.梅耶等36人联合发起成立。宗旨是研究、提高电影的艺术和技术质量，加强电影界内部各个不同专业之间的团结和协作，以促进电影事业的发展。学院从成立起主要以颁发一年一度的学院奖（后亦称奥斯卡奖）来检阅和促进影片的质量。后来由于影片和演员的票房价值在得奖后大为增加，各制片公司在投票前竞相宣传以影响会员的投票，故学院奖的商业气息日益严重。尽管如此，学院奖仍不失为促进美国影片质量提高的一种手段。学院设在洛杉矶的贝弗利希尔斯，它除办公室、电影厅和大小放映室外还有收藏十分丰富的影片和有关影片的图片文字资料的图书馆。学院 80年代有会员近 4000名。都是经学院聘请的电影界各专业的知名人士。学院第一任院长是D.范朋克。
