广东教育学院是一所省属成人高等师范院校，创办于1955年。81年开始成人高等师范本科教育，90年开始普通高等本科教育。92年被授予全国成人高等教育先进单位。
学院现设有政法、中文、外语、教育、数学、物理、化学、生物、体育、美术、计算机科学、音乐等12个教学系和社会科学部，设有29个本科和专科专业，其中本科专业15个，建有6个省级、校级研究所(中心),省中小学校长培训中心设在我校。有近300人的专任教师，其中高级职称教师占专任教师的46.6%,还有一支省内外知名专家学者、著名校长和特级教师组成的百余人的兼职教师队伍。
学院系科设置，培养目标，教学计划，运作机制，专业、学科、课程、师资队伍及实验室建设，教学质量监控，乃至行政、教辅、学生管理及后勤管理，皆以普通本科院校管理要求为范式。学校教育教学拥有良好的社会声誉，毕业生受到社会广泛欢迎和好评，近两年本科、专科毕业生一次就业率都在96%以上。
学院课余活动丰富,一年一度的计算机网页大赛.服装设计展示赛.师范生演讲比赛等均在校内形成良好的爱好比拼氛围.
根据广东省高等教育事业发展和结构调整的需要，上级主管部门已原则同意该院改制为普通高等本科院校。目前，学校申报改制工作,已进入实质性操作阶段。
