描述字段：小乔木至乔木，高4—12米；幼枝密被红锈色星状毛，老枝黑褐色，稍被糠秕状鳞片。叶厚革质，椭圆形、长圆形至倒卵状长圆形，长4—14厘米，宽2—5.5厘米，先端锐尖至短渐尖，基部圆形，三出脉高基部2—3毫米，侧脉2—3对，表面绿色，略有光泽，中肋与侧脉被星状毛，网脉极细，略下陷，背面橄揽绿色，疏被星状鳞片，中肋与侧脉略下陷，下部侧脉脉腋有阻显窝穴，网脉不显，全缘或偶有1—3枚不明显小齿突；叶柄长6—13毫米，密被星状鳞片。短穗状花序似头状，顶生及腋生，长约1.5厘米，有花10—12朵；总苞2—4枚，卵形，长5—6毫米，密被黑色星毛；苞片阔卵形，长6—8毫米，密被褐色绒毛；花序柄长3—5毫米。雄花或两性花无柄，萼筒壶形，长1.5毫米，被鳞片；萼齿卵形；雄蕊8—10枚，花丝长8—10毫米，花药长3毫米，药隔突出；子房被毛，花柱长1.5毫米，稍弯曲，被毛。果序近头状，蒴果长1.2厘米，被星状绒毛及长硬刺毛；宿存萼筒长约2毫米，被鳞片，不规则开裂，宿存花柱长4—5毫米，被星状毛。花期4月。
分布及生境：产彝良、大关，海拔1900—2500米的常绿阔叶林中，属第一、二层乔木。常见。最先采自我国四川屏山。
